ORV Regulations

Although people are guaranteed reasonable access to the coastal zone, vehicles have caused damage, degradation of the dunes and vegetation and overall habitat destruction. These regulations prohibit the recreational use of vehicles in the coastal zone. However they also provide procedures for the approval of restricted use of vehicles under specific circumstances and measures for the enforcement of these regulations.

Regulations in terms of The National Environmental Management Act, 1998: Control of Vehicles in the Coastal Zone

To provide for a general prohibition on the recreational use of vehicles in the coastal zone, to provide procedures for approving the use of vehicles in the coastal zone under specific circumstances, to provide measures for the enforcement of these regulations and to prescribe penalties in respect of contraventions.

Amendment for the: Control of use of Vehicles in the Coastal Zone

“To provide for measures preventing, minimising or managing public nuisances; to prohibit certain activities or conduct in public places; to provide for the repeal of laws and savings; and to provide for matters incidental thereto.” – 07 April 2017
