Competing with election posters and advertising banners, the hippo warning signs along the John Ross Parkway should be taken seriously.
RESPONDING to the regular presence of hippos along the banks of the Mzingazi canal, the municipality has erected a number of warning signs along the John Ross Parkway.
The dangerous creatures have been browsing along the length of the canal, from the Steel Bridge to the Arboretum traffic lights, attracting plenty of spectator attention. This has resulted in traffic issues, especially since the animals often cross the road, and personal safety issues as adults with children stop to take photos and even selfies.
The new signs serve as a reminder that hippos are extremely dangerous and it is best advised to stay well clear of them.
