The Uvongo lagoon and beach have been re-opened following their closure last Friday due to a sewage spill.

Both the lagoon and beach were closed after a sewer pipe burst at the Uvongo bridge.

According to Ugu District Municipality spokesman, France Zama, tests conducted by the municipality’s Environmental Health Services unit had on Monday this week showed that the lagoon’s E.coli content was below the acceptable limit for recreational activities.

“Bathers may now make use of the beach, and all lagoons are currently open for public use,” he said.
