Three fishermen rescued at Tugela Mouth

Sboniso Dlamini (North Coast Courier)

Three fishermen were found unharmed after floating in the water for more than three hours, after they were thrown overboard when their ski-boat hit a wave off the Tugela River Mouth this afternoon.

The alarm was raised when the men made contact with family, stating they would be beaching at approximately 11:40 am, but never arrived. Search operations were then started by the IPSS Search and Rescue division, Mandeni lifeguards, NSRI Ballito and NSRI Durban. The lifeguards located the boat which was empty, and the three men found later where they managed to swim to shore.

Quentin Power of National Sea Rescue said the men were taken to the launch station to be reunited with their families. He said other ski-boat clubs also joined the search.
