Introduction & Background

Chapter 1 outlines the need for State of the Coast reporting, the reporting framework utilised in the KZN SoCR (namely the DPSIR framework), and the limitations of the report. It provides definitions of the coastal zone in terms of the ICMA, and the chapter concludes with a guideline for reading and cross-referencing within the report (Table 1.2).
