A MAN suspected of being involved in setting up gill nets inside the Port of Richards Bay, drowned last Friday after reportedly being caught by the incoming tide.
Reports say two men had walked into a shallow area to lay nets on the mangrove flats near the coal terminal, but were surprised by the quickly rising spring tide.
Unable to swim, one man drowned during his attempt to reach land.
Police were notified of his death by a companion of the deceased, who had brought his body to shore.
Police returned to the scene at low tide the following day to recover the nets.
