St Lucia’s hippo parade

The hippos were out in full force in St Lucia over the weekend, with as many as five – including two young ones – filmed walking along the main road at one time. Fred Stefanini, owner of Alfredo’s Restaurant, posted the video on Facebook on Saturday morning, having filmed the hippo parade the previous night.

While it is nothing new to see hippos parading the streets of St Lucia and ‘mowing’ the grass verges, residents never tire of the experience. And, while it is indeed a novel experience for tourists from out of town and from abroad, some take the hippo warning signs as a marketing drawcard for the tourist town – until they see the beasts for themselves. Where else can you go to enjoy a guaranteed sighting of a hippo, or five?
