The KZN Sharks Board have removed shark nets on certain beaches along the coast. The move comes following news that bad weather is due to hit KZN later today.
On Tuesday, the South African Weather Service predicted unsettled seas and a strong groundswell of up to three metres.
Mike Anderson-Reade, head of operations at the Sharks Board said Wednesday’s weather conditions could result in the movement or damage to shark safety gear should they remain in the water.
“In order to minimise damage or losses, the Sharks Board, in consultation with the affected Municipalities, has this morning removed shark safety gear at the majority of protected bathing beaches. Shark safety gear will be replaced as soon as the seas have settled and we are confident that the gear will remain stable,” said Anderson-Reade.
