The KZN Sharks Board has announced that shark safety gear has been reinstalled and bathing has been reopened at South Coast beaches.
Beaches from Umzumbe to Port Edward are now safe for swimming, Mike Anderson-Reade, head of operations, said in a statement.
Umzumbe, Southport, St Michael’s, Margate, Ramsgate, San Lameer, Glenmore and Port Edward, are now open.
Mr Anderson-Reade added it should be noted however that intense sardine and associated predator activity is still being experienced on the upper south coast between Illovo and Scottburgh.
“The Board will continue to monitor this activity and only replace gear at beaches within this region once the activity subsides,” he said.
The nets were removed on 25 July due to strike action by staff over wages. An agreement has since been reached with unions over increases.
