The South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) Institute congratulated Sea Change Project for their film, My Octopus Teacher which won Best Documentary at the Oscars on Sunday night.

SAAMBR spokesperson, Ann Kunz said Rocky the uShaka Sea World octopus has also given them a thumbs (or tentacles) up to the film.

“For the longest time, the jury has been out as to which marine animal is the most remarkable. It appears that for the moment this coveted title belongs to the octopus. A most deserving ocean ambassador for change. Next time you visit the aquarium be sure to look out for Rocky who is often tucked away in a crevice with only his beady eyes and a tentacle or two visible,” said Kunz.

My Octopus Teacher is a 2020 Netflix Original documentary film directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed, which documents a year spent by filmmaker Craig Foster forging a relationship with a wild common octopus in a South African kelp forest.
