Poacher boat confiscated in Richards Bay

Dave Savides (Zululand Observer) Picture: NCAP volunteers on Sunday recovered a poacher boat laden with gill nets

There was no weekend rest for members of the North Coast Anti-Poaching Group (NCAP), and the volunteers completed yet another successful mission on Sunday afternoon when they recovered a makeshift boat used by gill net poachers.

‘We had intercepted them on Saturday night near Pelican Island and they fled in the dark, abandoning their boat,’ said one NCAP member.

‘We searched for it from 2 pm on Sunday and eventually found it at 5 pm, with about 800 m of nets on board. ‘We must have interrupted them before they had a chance to lay the nets because there were no fish inside.’

Always grateful to the public for providing information, NCAP pleads for financial support, sponsor funding and donations for fuel and the various anti-poaching equipment required.
