Paddle-skier stung by stingray rescued by NSRI

A man (72) was stung by a blue stingray while fishing from a paddle ski some 600 meters off the Mpenjati River mouth on Tuesday this week.  He was unable to paddle as he was in pain and his arm was paralysed.

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Port Edward duty crew responded.

NSRI Station 32 Port Edward.

John Nicholas, NSRI Port Edward station commander, said that their sea rescue craft Rescue Runner was launched and the NSRI rescue vehicle, police Search and Rescue and Med-Evac ambulance services responded.

“He was brought to the Glenmore Ski-boat Club where he was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.”

He is expected to make a full recovery.
