Closed beaches push anglers to find new hunting grounds

Anglers returned home this week with ‘fish fever’ following the bumper action taking place all along the north coast shoreline.
Funny enough, it was the fishing ski lads that saw the bulk of the action. For those avid and determined anglers who headed out early in the morning on their ski boats, they were rewarded with a number of different sized snoek. Simply trolling a lipped lure on the backline was the most effective way of catching these guys. It is great fun targeting these species on the lighter tackle, so ensure to use a 10 kg setup for these fish. Anglers making their way into the deeper waters and using bigger lipped lures or live bait have been rewarded with tuna and couta.
Rock and surf anglers have seen some brilliant spinning action recently. The secret is to find the remaining pockets of sardines and spin around them, which has resulted in some great action. There have been a number of species swimming around these shoals. But the snoek, garrick and kingfish species have been on top of the catching menu.
The rest of the north coast has seen edible fishing action along the many beaches, with the stumpies feeding well on the sandbank edges.
