Results of testing will be released as soon as possible.

Mpenjati lagoon has been temporarily closed to any recreational activities for the time being.

“It is a precautionary measure following the failure of the rising main which resulted in possible pollution of the lagoon,” said an Ugu spokesman.

Ugu’s environmental health services and environmental management will be sampling the water to ascertain the level of contamination, if any.

“The community will be informed accordingly on the status of the lagoon once testing has been completed.”
