A NUMBER of workshops will be held on the rules and regulations surrounding threatened or protected marine species published in 2017.
All boat operators and clubs are urged to attend one of the workshops in their areas.
The regulations were gazetted to enhance and increase the protection of a number of species, including the coelacanth, sharks, dolphins and turtles, as well as to manage restricted activities associated with these significant species.
‘Considering it has been over a year since these regulations came into effect, it is important that boat users in the ocean space, particularly those offering leisure boat cruises including, among others, adrenaline boat rides and recreational charters, are aware of the legislation,’ said the OC Permits section of the Department of Environmental Affairs.
