Durban residents gathered at Blue Lagoon Beach in Durban to take part in an environmental clean-up on Sunday, August 27. The clean-up was hosted by The World Mission Society Church of God. Church of God official Isaac Kim said, “Church members gathered their hearts in unity to purify the beach so as to provide a pleasant environment for local residents and to preserve the global environment.

“The Blue Lagoon Beach, where the purification activities were held on this day, is a place where garbage often accumulates. There are many people [who come to appreciate] the beautiful scenery of the lagoon and beach, but they end up leaving litter after their departure. About 30 people, including believers, family members and neighbours in this area, cleaned up a 500m section of the beach for two hours. About 650kg of various household waste, such as disposable plastic cups and straws, plastic bags and beverage cans, etc, were collected, and a hundred 100-litre garbage bags were filled. Durban City Hall’s Durban Solid Waste Department supported the activity by donating gloves and garbage bags,” said Kim.
