The public is also warned to stay clear of a hippo that is frequenting the Mzingazi Canal and Bay Hall area.
It was seen on Wednesday evening grazing on the banks of the canal near the Medway Road/Green Africa intersection.
According to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Roy Jones, both crocs and hippos move into salty areas to rid themselves of parasites.
‘The crocodile should make its own way up the canal in due course, but until then the public make remain alert,’ said Jones.
