Ohlanga-Tongati Local Area Plan and Coastal Management Plan

"The Ohlanga-Tongati Local Area contains a section of the national coastal corridor. It also forms the receiving environment for three major river systems in the eThekwini Municipal Area (the Ohlanga, Umdloti and Tongati), and a number of smaller catchments draining land near to the coast.


It performs a number of strategically important environmental services, such as; creating and maintaining healthy living environments; creating economic opportunities and lowering costs on waste disposal and flood control..."

Umgababa Coastal Management Plan

July 2009


"Umgababa is identified as a coastal corridor with national significance-tourism. The area is anticipated to be a future regional corridor. There are development projects that are anticipated for the area, these projects are envisioned to bring about economic development and growth.


The three precincts of the study area are characterized by features that are more or less similar with the movement systems and vegetation running from Umkomaas up to the Amanzimtoti precinct. Umgababa precinct is dominated by subsistence agriculture and Umkomaas is the precinct with commercial agriculture being evident is with the forestry and the sugar cane plantations..."
