In accordance with last week’s amended Level 1 regulations, the iSimangaliso Wetland Park has implemented operational measures to comply. While access to protected parks with access control measures and entry limitations already in place will remain open to the public over the festive season, additional measures must be taken to ensure the well-being of all.

iSimangaliso will strictly enforce the upper limit of 250 people for outdoor activities at all of its facilities. All overnight guests and concessionaires within the wetland park will be allowed to operate within the constraints of the regulations.

Roadblocks will be conducted at various points across the park to enforce compliance. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is strictly an alcohol-free zone and this regulation will also be strictly enforced. No vehicles will be allowed entry into any part of the park if occupants are not wearing face masks and who do not adhere to all health protocols.

All visitors to the park will be subjected to the mandatory temperature test and, based on the results, iSimangaliso has the right to refuse entry.

‘Park management understands that iSimangaliso has critical and essential locations at which local communities and other visitors enjoy themselves during festive seasons,’ said the park authority.

‘However, due to the current regulation restrictions, numbers of people accessing the park will be strictly controlled to ensure safety against Covid-19.’

These restrictions came into effect on Wednesday, 16 December and will be in place until Sunday, 3 January.
