Demolition works at St Lucia’s estuary beach

The removal of trees and demolition of the toilet block will take several weeks to complete

THE iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority has issued a notice of the demolition of St Lucia’s estuary beach toilet block, as well as the removal of the beach’s casuarinas, beginning today (Monday).

The demolition of the toilet block is in keeping with iSimangaliso’s redevelopment of the Lake St Lucia estuary precinct, and the park authority plans to get it done before the onset of the wet season.

This, along with the relocation of the vehicle and boat access ramp to its new position at Ingwe Beach, forms part of the planned St Lucia estuary precinct projects, for which the environmental impact assessment and record of decision are already in place.

The projects include upgrades from the Sugarloaf campsite to, and including, the St Lucia Ski Boat Club.

The Ingwe Beach access ramp has been prepared and will be commissioned shortly.

Tree removals and demolition of the ablution block will take several weeks to complete and beachgoers are asked to exercise caution when in the vicinity.
