The community group, #CleanBlueLagoon meet regularly to clear the sands of the estuary mouth of garbage that collects there.

ON Saturday, 22 April, dedicated locals collected over 100 bags of litter that had washed up on the beach at the mouth of the Umgeni River. The organiser of #CleanBlueLagoon, Dale Johnson said, “The amount of litter that was on the beach was the worst that I’ve seen in a long time.”

He added that he was disappointed by the poor turn out on the day but that he was grateful to those who had lent a hand. “Despite the set backs, we’ll carry on. Giving up is not an option,” Johnson declared.
