Bad moon rising: Weekend tide warning

“Bathers, anglers, paddlers, boaters, coastal hikers and beach strollers are urged to be cautious, and swimming should only be undertaken at beaches with lifeguards“

The NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute) is urging beach-goers and fishermen to be cautious over the next few days, as the Full Moon Spring Tide peaks tomorrow (Thursday) and the spring tide effect will still be present this coming weekend.

The tide often brings with it large swells and rough seas.

Bathers, anglers, paddlers, boaters, coastal hikers and beach strollers are urged to be cautious, and swimming should only be undertaken at beaches with lifeguards on duty, and within the red and yellow marker flags.

Parents must ensure children are supervised at all times.

Spring Tide happens twice a month, at full moon and again at new moon and causes a higher than normal high tide and a lower than normal low tide.

This increases the strength of rip currents, which are a huge danger to water sportsmen.
