The North Coast Anti-poaching (NCAP) group intercepted fish poaching operations in the Richards Bay harbour area on Monday night, recovering 3.6 km of gill nets, a makeshift boat and hundreds of fish.

Members of NCAP received a call about suspected poaching activities at 9 pm. On arrival at the location, poachers fled into nearby bushes, leaving behind their boat and gill nets.

While 112 fish were safely released back into the water, 412 had died in the nets. Ongoing community participation and reporting of poaching activities has led to these illegal activities being intercepted and curbed.

NCAP is always in need of funds to continue their volunteer efforts and all monies are used towards fuel, personal protective gear and equipment.
