After the devastating ‘May Floods’, organisers of the Consol Breathe World Oceans Day Swim have decided to postpone the event. The event is scheduled for next Saturday, June 4.
With the current circumstances in the ocean off the Durban coast, event organiser and environmental activist Sarah Ferguson believed the event could not go forward.
“Raw sewage is running into the ocean due to broken pipes, so we have made the difficult choice to postpone our event for the safety of our swimmers. We will host the event when we get clarity on when it will be safe to swim in the ocean again,” Ferguson said.
According to Ferguson, those who have entered the swim will be contacted about reimbursements or will be given the opportunity to carry their entry over to the new date.
