Poachers plunder Richards Bay fish stocks again

The scourge of illegal gill net poaching in the harbour area continues unabated – but it is being met with equal passion by local environmental volunteers.

Members of the North Coast Anti-Poaching group (NCAP) were out on the water again over the weekend, scoring another significant success. Two poacher boats were seized, one of which sank, and four nets with a total length of 2.4 km were recovered. No fewer than 53 grunters were found dead in the nets, along with two skates, while a further 33 live fish were released.

Grateful to the public for providing information, NCAP pleads for financial support, sponsor funding and donations for fuel and the various anti-poaching equipment required.
