Join the recycling revolution

ENCOURAGING all South Africans to start taking recycling and plastic waste reduction seriously, a recycling revolution has begun.

Launched last month, the Million Plus recycling campaign aims to mobilise more than one million South Africans to commit to recycling plastic packaging. Polyco (Polyolefin Responsibility Organisation) put the Million Plus project into motion as it believes recycling is something everyone can do to make a positive impact on the Earth. They aim to recruit recyclers who will spread the word about the importance of recycling. The ultimate aim of the Million Plus campaign is to put an end to plastic in the natural environment.

‘Our intention is to encourage as many people as possible to join the recycling revolution and to share their efforts through word-of-mouth and across all social media platforms,’ said Mandy Naudé, CEO of Polyco.

‘Eradicating plastic pollution in the environment will require everyone in South Africa becoming responsible for the packaging they buy and to recycle it after use.

‘Our goal is to get over one million people to sign up to the Million Plus campaign with the hope that the message around recycling will spread and recycling will become the norm for every South African.’

To commit, sign up to the campaign at www.millionplusrecyclers.co.za and then encourage colleagues, family and friends to also sign up. Polyco’s ultimate aim is to create a free online database of recycling drop-off points, to assist those who are not sure of where or how to recycle.
