Ethekwini Municipality alerts all residents of the temporary closure of Cuttings Beach in Merebank due to a suspected sewerage surcharge that the city is currently addressing.

The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) alleged that the suspected surcharge is from the Southern Waste Water Treatment Works (SWWTW) in Merebank.

eThekwini Municipality’s Spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela said that residents are also advised that no swimming or fishing (all forms) will be allowed at the North and South of the Umlazi Canal. We apologise for the inconvenience. Residents will be notified of any changes in due course,” he added.
