The Fisheries division of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) is the relevant authority for recreational and commercial fishing activities along the coast. DAFF is responsible for the authorisations of coastal use permits.
A permit is required for the harvesting of any living marine or estuarine organism irrespective of whether it is for recreational, commercial or subsistence purposes. Applications for both small scale inshore fisheries as well as offshore large scale fisheries can be obtained from the DAFF website (see links under Additional Information).
