GUCCI the young penguin who was stranded on a Port Edward beach is doing extremely well.

Ann Kunz of uShaka Marine World said when the young penguin arrived the veterinary team assessed her and thankfully she had no injuries.

“Her poor condition was very likely caused by malnutrition. While in rehabilitation she was given fluids, antibiotics and soon showed signs of recovering. She ate well and gained a lot of weight – which is a very good thing for a young penguin,” she said.

How cute am I? Gucci, the penguin has gained a lot of weight since her arrival at uShaka Marine World.

The veterinary team, under Dr Francois Lampen, is confident she will soon be fit enough for relocation to Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) in the Cape, where she will spend time before being released back into the ocean.
